Kindle Scribe vs. iPad – Which Is Better for Reading and Handwriting Notes?

I pre-ordered the Kindle Scribe the second I first saw it. It arrived recently, and I immediately started comparing it to my iPad Pro. Here's what you should know about the two compared side by side.

Kindle Scribe Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Pencil feels much more realistic than the Apple iPad.
  • Extremely long battery life. Pencil also doesn't require charging.
  • Minimalistic and can help avoid distractions.
  • Annotate Kindle books
  • Screen brightness control makes it easier to read for extended periods of time.
  • Prevents glare extremely well.

Cons

  • Clunky Kindle operating system.
  • Sharing functionality is limited to just email.
  • Expensive relative to iPad considering its lack of functionality and features.
  • Writing is limited to dark or light and there are no options for font or highlight colors.

Conclusion:

The Kindle Scribe is great at what it set out to do, provide a great note taking experience. The pen and tablet feel amazingly realistic and are much less clunky than the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.

It is not by any means a "replacement" to an iPad, but if you currently take notes on your iPad and want to try something different and don't mind the relatively high cost, check out the Kindle Scribe.

iPad Pro Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Extreme functionality compared to Kindle Scribe
  • Note taking apps provide for many options Kindle Scribe doesn't have like color.
  • Syncs perfectly with other Apple devices.
  • Many options for note taking apps.
  • Can also add handwritten notes to Kindle books in the app
  • Can replace a laptop.

Cons

  • Battery life.
  • Distractions.
  • The feel of the Apple pencil on the tablet is not as good as the Scribe.
  • Extreme glare when used in sunlight.

Conclusion:

The iPad Pro is simply a masterpiece of technology and it's at no risk of losing any market share to the Scribe. The iPad writing experience is not as high quality as the Scribe and you can't edit Kindle books, but other than that, the iPad reigns supreme.
